Located one mile from Inverness and near the Point Reyes National Seashore, Marsh Cottage has been a favorite retreat since 1985 for those who prefer the comforts of a bed and breakfast in the privacy of their own completely equipped cottage. Only one party of two (or three - and, children are welcome) can occupy Marsh Cottage at one time; there are not other units.
The cottage sits on a salt/freshwater marsh along Tomales Bay- local wildlife and flora create a unique and magical setting that enhances guests' experience of the Point Reyes area in all its seasons. It has a full kitchen, bath, queen bed, desk and sitting area, fireplace, guidebooks, daypacks, board games, even binoculars. Breakfast is provided in the privacy of the cottage, and consists of fresh orange juice, fresh-baked muffins or breakfast bread, fresh fruits in season, milk and granola cereals, a basket of eggs, and a generous assortment of teas, and regular and decaf french roast coffee. Many make it a ritual to take breakfast out on the sunny deck overlooking the bay and Black Mountain.
Originally built in the 30's, its style is that of a nostalgic Cape Cod country cottage--with grey wood exterior, white trim, remodeled white wood interior, mullioned (small paned) windows, colors of teal, white, beige, terracotta, coordinated print fabrics, functional antiques, front porch and deck with weathered redwood furniture. A perfect base from which to explore spectacular Point Reyes National Seashore as well as Tomales Bay State Park, with its miles of trails in every type of scenic terrain, prolific wildlife, private coves and dramatic beaches - all accessable by car, foot, bicycle, or horseback. Two historic villages close by, the enchanting Inverness and classically western Point Reyes Station, both host a variety of good restaurants and shops both practical and unique. Begin your adventures at the Bear Valley Visitors Center, or just use one of the many guidebooks in the cottage, for a day of hiking, tidepooling, birding, picnicking, swimming, exploring hillsides of wildflowers, or, like many guests, just linger in the magical setting of Marsh Cottage.
